Abstract:

The injection of liquid jet into a crossing Mach 6 air flow is investigated through numerical modeling. In order to include the effects of droplet breakup, Euler-Lagrange approach is used for simulation of injecting water into crossing air. Also, the effects of droplet distortion are included by using dynamic drag model for droplets. ANSYS Fluent solver is used for solving the governing equations. The penetration height and lateral extension of jet is investigated in three different momentum ratio and compared to experimental data obtained by H3 hypersonic wind tunnel of von Karman Institute. The results show good agreement with experimental measurements
