Abstract:

The present study has examined two Persian translations of 'The LovelyBones' – a novel written by A. Sebold – to find out whether there is anysignificant difference between them in terms of explicitness in translation. Thetwo translations examined in the study belong to Qazinejad and Mo'tazedrespectively. The study also has aimed to determine which translation is themost successful in explicating the text. Klaudy’s (2003) classification has beenused as the theoretical framework of the study. The data regardingexplicitation have been extracted from the two translations on the basis of thecategories of the model. Then, the frequency of explicitation strategies presentin the two translations has been calculated and then compared with each other. The findings of the study indicate that there exist some differences betweentranslations, Mo'tazed's was more explicit, and 'addition' was the most frequentstrategy.
