Abstract:
Note-taking has often been considered as a crucial technique in consecutive interpreting.Training methods for enhancing skills such as note-taking and sight translation are wellestablishedfor novice conference and community interpreters. Yet, few studies have explorednote-taking’s relationship with interpreting abilities. This article aims at investigating therelationship between the note-taking and long consecutive interpreting abilities of a group ofundergraduate translation students at the University of Zabol. Participants were given two testsof note-taking and long consecutive interpreting. The obtained results revealed a significantrelationship between the subjects’ performances on the two tests. Our findings might beinteresting to translation instructors, as note-taking might be considered as a useful technique initself, or as part of a more comprehensive strategy, in teaching consecutive interpreting skills.
