Abstract:

According to a definition, urban space is just the space of daily life of citizens, which every day is being understood, consciously or unconsciously. In designing and evaluation of sustainable city frameworks, scholars focus on human’s essential needs. These needs in western countries are limited to satisfying physiological needs. While in the past, physiological and conceptual needs were two major factors in the Islamic-Iranian architecture for each city, which has been forgotten today. According to many artists, the most obvious characteristic of an Islamic city to meet the conceptual needs manifests in the decorations and signs today called as graphic. In other words, environmental graphic help readability and gives identity, and acts as a guide in the city’s skeleton. Architecture’s skeleton itself in a macro scale meets physiological needs. In fact, these two factors together lead to a sustainable architecture. In this paper, we have tried to study city view interpretation with an emphasis on the signs and decorations from three perspectives including hermeneutic science, semiology methods in different scales and identification of incarnation language of city view. Therefore historical-descriptive method is used.
