Abstract:
Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) is designed in order to optimize the effect of braking process and maintain the ability to steer a car. However, the functionality of ABS decreases when the road condition is not perfect since coefficient of friction between road and tire is nonlinear and a ratio of slipping, and it is different for various road surfaces. Hence, in this article, the road surface is detected by adopting fuzzy logic. Also, the longitudinal coefficient of friction between road and tire is set at its maximum value; furthermore, Sliding Mode Controller maintains the slipping ratio at optimum value such that the stopping vehicle stops without frustration in the least amount of time. Simulations are conducted on a 1/4 car model in MATLAB environment, and the results show that ABS with road detection acts much superior to ABS without road detection.
