Abstract:
Hydrogen sulphide is regarded as one of the most important destructive sulphur compounds present in natural gas. Biological removal of hydrogen sulphide has been recently taken into consideration as a promising approach. In this study, Thiobacillus thioparus Tk-m was employed for biological removal of hydrogen sulphide from absorbing caustic soda solution under controlled conditions. The ability of T. thioparus for hydrogen sulphide removal is acceptable despite its very low optical density and slow growth rate. For hydrogen sulphide loads below 1 mM/h, its removal efficiency was obtained to be about 99 percent. Moreover, control the oxygen level at limited condition contributes to increase of the sulphur selectivity
