Production of bacterial nano cellulose (BNC) as a biodegradable polymer

In this study, the effect of medium and carbon source on production of bacterial nano cellulose(BNC) and its microstructure was investigated. Results showed that Z media containing corn steep liquorshowed the highest production. Then, the effect of different carbon sources on dry weight and yield of BNCproduced in Z medium was explored. According to the obtained results, BNCs produced with molasses,mannitol, sucrose, and whey powder revealed the higher dry weight and yield in comparison to other carbonsources. FE-SEM micrographs showed that the network structure of BNC is made up a random assembly offibrils with average width of 23.81 nm. According to EDX analysis, the O/C ratio for BNC harvested from mediacontaining whey powder was higher than that of other media.
