Abstract:
activated carbons (ACs) have wide applications in adsorptions. However, the applications are limited by difficultiesencountered in separation and regeneration processes. Here, activated carbon/Fe3O4 nanoparticle composites (AC/MNP),which combine the adsorption features of activated carbon (AC) with the magnetic and excellent catalytic properties ofFe3O4 nanoparticles, were fabricated by a modified Co-precipitation method using HNO3 as the carbon modifying agent.Then structural studies carried out by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transforms infraredspectrophotometer (FT-IR). The percent of removal, adsorption capacity and adsorption isotherm of AC/MNP compositefor dibenzothiophene (DBT) in iso-octane solvent was studied. The effect of AC content in adsorbent, temperature,amount of adsorbent and contact time were investigated. The adsorption of DBT via AC/MNP followed the freundlichisotherm.
