Abstract:

In the present study, a novel quantitative method has been developed for trace sulfasalazine determinationbased on magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE). Manganese ferrite nanoparticles (MnFe2O4 NPs) were synthesizedusing a simple chemical co-precipitation method, and then was modified in-situ with 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazoliumchloride. The resulting sorbent was characterized by FT-IR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD). The adsorbent was used for solid phase extraction-spectrophotometric determination of sulfasalazine. Factorsaffecting the sulfasalazine extraction efficiency were investigated and optimized. Under the optimum conditions, themagnetic adsorbent exhibited linear calibrations for sulfasalazine concentration in the ranges of 1-35 and 35-220 ng mL-1. The limit of detection for sulfasalazine was 0.4 ng mL-1. The method was successfully applied for extractiondeterminationof sulfasalazine in environmental and pharmaceutical samples such as water, soil and pharmaceuticaltablets. The obtained results showed that the proposed method was simple, accurate, reproducible and highly selectivefor analysis of sulfasalazine.
