Preparation of electromagnetic radiation absorbing structures using epoxy/polyaniline blends in X-band frequency range

Electromagnetic (EM) radiation absorbers are frequently used for protection of electronic systems such asmobile from EM interference, camouflaging military equipment from radar detection and preventing the risk of theradiations on human beings. In this work, Blends of epoxy/polyaniline-dodecylbenzensulfunic acid (PANI-DBSA) wereprepared via solution and direct mixing methods. Blends containing 1-20 wt.% PANI-DBSA within epoxy matrix wereprepared and they were applied on the top of aluminium coupons as thin coatings. The reflection loss (R.L.) parameterof the blends was tested over a frequency range of 8-12 GHz (X-band), and ~ -21 dB was obtained for coating containing20 wt.% PANI-DBSA loading, indicating that they may be used as effective EM absorber materials.
