Abstract:

In this report highly concentrated Li doped ZnO (LZO) nanopowders with varying Li concentrations (0, 4, 6, 8 and 10 at%) was synthesized by an improved sol-gel method. Raman spectra and X-ray diffraction of LZO are investigated. Thesecharacterization methods are highly suitable and sensitive tools for the experimental identification of the disorders eventhe impurities are present in low concentrations. Lithium, owing to its smaller radius, and substitution of Li in ZnO,breaks the crystal translational symmetry to a large extent, compared to other dopants. In Raman spectra, four peaks wereidentified at 96.6, 127, 157, and 194 cm−1 in the Li doped samples. The peaks positions shift in varying Li concentrationsare assigned to zone boundary phonons in ZnO and appear due to disorder in ZnO lattice with Li incorporation. Shiftpositions of X-ray diffraction originating from disorder in ZnO structure. Shift peaks positions to higher 2θ values arecorroborant of the substituted Li position and its role as acceptor.
