Abstract:

The traditional membranes are not capable to selectively separate individual substance, and therefore, purification of many racemic drugs is very challenging using these membranes. Molecularly imprinted membrane (MIM)is proven to circumvent the aforementioned problem. In the present study four differentMIMs prepared by modifying thesupport membranes via a thin layer of a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), possessing nano-cavities for selectiveseparation of naproxen, were chosen from literature and their selectivity factor and the morphologies were comparedwith non-imprinted membranes (NIPs). It was inferred that each MIM presents different selectivity factor towardnaproxen. Among these membranes, PVDF hollow fiber membrane grafted on a (S)-nap–4-VPy–trimethylolpropanetriacrylate-based MIP formulation exhibited the higher enantioselectivity toward naproxen and Cellulose acetate-(S)-napmolecularly imprinted composite membrane indicated good selectivity in comparison with its structural analogue.
