Preparation and Characterization of Silk Sericin Nano Powder

Silk Sericin is a biocompatible and biodegradable protein with exclusive properties such as antibacterial and UVabsorbing,therefore, its recovery can have significant economic and social benefits. In this study, sericin from real silkdegumming wastewater has been extracted and its nano powder has been prepared. The structural properties of theisolated nano sericin powder were investigated using XRD and FT-IR analysis. Surface morphology was studied underField Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM). Sericin nano particles can be prepared with a uniformspherical shape and an average size below 60 nm. Also sonication parameters (time and temperature) affect the particlesize reduction and particle morphology.
