Abstract:

The ZnO has a potential as a host lattice for doping several luminescence centers and shows versatileapplication. Undoped and Eu3+ doped ZnO nanostructures were synthesized through hydrothermal method. TheZnO:Eu structures exhibit a sharp luminescence due to the intra-4f transitions of Eu3+ ions.Eu-doped ZnO nanorods were synthesized by hydrothermal method.Effects of synthetic parameters, such as annealingatmospheres, temperature and concentration of doped ions, were studied in detail. The crystal structure of the dopednanostructures were studied and compared with undoped ZnO by X-ray diffraction method. The XRD results indicatedthat Eu ions were successfully doped into the ZnO nanorods due to no diffraction peaks of dopants in the XRDpatterns. This study recommended that the intrinsic defects have effective roll on transfer energy to Eu ions at indirectexcitation. The results showed that after the annealing process, due to the decrease in surface defects, the crystalstructure became much better; however due to diminishing in oxygen vacancy, ET and red emission decreased.
