Development and characterisation of dry powder prepared by alendronate loaded solid lipid nanoparticles

Alendronate sodium is a bisphosphonate drug, which is used for the treatment of osteoporosis. Inhalablesolid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) of the alendronate were successfully developed by spray-dried from aqueous solution.Simple homogenization method was applied for preparation of SLNs. Scanning electron microscopy showed sphericalparticle morphology with smooth surfaces for the spray-dried particles. The attained results showed that this novelinhalable spray dried nanoparticulate-on-microparticle aerosol platform has great potential for systemic delivery ofthe alendronate sodium.
