Abstract:
In this paper, free vibration analysis of longitudinal functionally graded (LFG) circular cylindrical shells with simply supported boundary conditions has been investigated. It is assumed that the shell properties vary continuously through the longitudinal direction according to power law distribution of the volume fraction. The governing equations of motion are obtained utilizing first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is employed to discretize the equations of motion. Initially, the obtained results for a simply supported isotropic circular cylindrical shell are compared with those available in the literature, then the effects of shell geometry parameters including length to radius and thickness to radius ratio, the volume fraction exponent and circumferential wave number on the natural frequencies of LFG circular cylindrical shell are investigated
