Since a significant portion of outages caused by the defects in medium voltage equipments of distribution substations. Fast detection of such defects is very important for timely maintenance. Therefore Image processing techniques can be used to pay for fast detection of defects. image segmentation is the process of partitioning a digital image into multiple segments. The goal of segmentation is to simplify and/or change the representation of an image into something that is more meaningful and easier to analyze. In this paper we have been discussed three segmentation algorithm namely: watershed, Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform, clustering, with indoor medium voltage cable termination Image. The experimental results are obtained using metrics such as PSNR and MSE, that watershed algorithm with values respectively 58.6 and 18366 are better results as compared to other algorithms
