Abstract:
In this paper a probabilistic approach is presented for optimal design of school structures from areliability point of view. The reliability constraint is applied through Monte Carlo simulationconsidering uncertainties in both of seismic excitations and structural capacity. The GravitationalSearch Algorithm is used for optimization process. The Ashrafi Esfahani School of Kerman isconsidered as case study. The application of the proposed method for a typical frame of structure showsthat the failure probability considering deterministic constraints, is significantly larger than failureprobability when the reliability index is considered as optimization constraint. Furthermore, theoptimum weight in probabilistic optimization is about 25% larger compared to the optimum weightobtained by deterministic optimization.
