Abstract:

The renewable energy consumption has been increased rapidly with high economic growth inall over the world. As one of the most promising renewable energy resource, wind energy hasbecome a major part of the plans for sustainable development. In this study, the measuredwind speed data for a period of 7 years from 2006 to 2012 at 10 m of Zanjan andKhodabandehcitieshave been statistically analyzed to determine the potential of wind powergeneration. According to these data, the meanannualvalues of k are1.34 and 1.68 for Zanjanand Khodabandeh respectively, while those of c are 2.61 and 4.16. However, theannualmeanwind speed, wind mean power of Zanjan and Khodabandeh are found as 2.48 and 3.9 m/s,56.56 and 88.72 W/m2, respectively. The results show that Zanjan andKhodabandeh do nothave sufficient wind energy potential for grid connection system. However, Khodabandeh’swind potential can be sufficient for hybrid application with solarenergy.Moreover, it can beusedto supplysmallappliancessuchaswater pump, lighting, electrical fanand airconditioningunitsforprivate places and small housesinstand-alone applications.
