Abstract:

Fatty composition of the hexane extract of pterocephalus canus Coult.Ex DC ( Dipsacaceae) has been analyzed by GC/MS. 92.28% of total compounds including, methyl esters (20.11%), alcohols (29.99%), alkanes (29.74%), other esters(10.12%) and Ketones (2.33%) were identified in the extract. Total phenolic and flavonoid content and radical scavenging activity of 50% hydro methanol, methanol and chloroform extracts of the species were also measured. The results showed that 50% hydro methanol extract has higher amount of phenolic (120.906±0.904mg/L) and flavonoid (10.552±0.0898 mg/L) contents. The results showed significant correlation between radical scavenging and total phenolic and flavonoid contents of the extracts.
