Abstract:

In the recent years, the appearance of nervous blindness caused by drinking methanol in herbaceous distillates is created some serious anxieties. The aim of this study is introducing a sensitive, accurate, inexpensive and easy method for measuring of methanol in herbal distillates. This new modified method is designed based on chromotropic acid method for easily determination of methanol content in herbal distillates. In this study, 30 herbaceous distillates (10 different kinds from three companies) produced by industrial method were used as samples and all of tests were done by using a new trademark kit. This new kit was designed and innovated based on valid chromotropic acid method. Also, the obtained results showed that all of the examined samples have different amounts of methanol. Since the production of methanol is occurred in all life time of plants, determination of permitted amount of methanol in herbal distillates is necessary. Therefore, to have an easy method for quantitative determination of methanol in herbal distillates could be useful for producers, researchers, observation organs and etc.
