A practical and green method for the synthesis of 3-Substituted Indoles by the condensation of indole, aldehyde and N-methylaniline in the presence of a catalytic amount of [HMIm]HSO4 at room temperature is described.The significant features of this procedure are high yields of the products, simple workup, operational simplicity and non-toxicity of the catalyst. Moreover, [HMIm]HSO4 is successfully reused for four cycles without significant less of activity.
