Abstract:
Achillea cuneatiloba Boiss. & Buhse (Asteraceae) were collected from central regions of Iran. Essential oils of different parts including flowers and leaves were extracted by hydrodistillation and injected to GC & GC-MS and also antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of essential oils were tested. Compounds Yomogi alcohol (12.9%), Artemisia alcohol (27.6%), Camphor (15.3%), Bornyl acetate (6.3%) were detected as major constituents in flowers and Artemisia alcohol (18.9%), trans-Calamenen-10-ol (5.7%), (2Z,6Z)-Farnesol (7.4%) were as major ingredients in leaves essential oil. Antioxidant activity of all samples were done by 2, 2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil (DPPH) free radical assays and results show that all essential oils had high phenol content and significant antioxidant activity. Estimation of antimicrobial activity were performed by 9 microorganism and result shown all samples exhibit antimicrobial activity against tested microorganisms except Escherichia coliPTCC 1399. According to present findings the essential oils obtained from Achillea cuneatilobaBoiss. & Buhse shows significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activity and could be used as goodsource of natural product for further investigation.
