خلاصه مقاله:
The present paper approaches Mathew Quick’s novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, in the light of Deleuzian Aparallel Evolution. Deleuzian philosophy, in general, is based on a non-culminating assumption that everything is in the middle and there is no beginning or ending for any issue, so one should not search for definitions from zero or even look for a climax. On the other hand, by focusing on what happens when two separate entities become one, Deleuze and Guattari propose new suggestions about the concept of unity under the influence of a bigger scale phenomenon, which they call Aparallel Evolution. In Quick’s Novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, the two main characters are recovering from severe depression and are struggling to redefine themselves in the society, but Patrick, the male protagonist, unlike Tiffany, the female protagonist, has a superstitious idea about a future happy ending as a promised climax in his life. However, the story takes another course devoid of the need for a culminating point, the friendship and then the unity between them creates an evolution in the course of the story which makes them accept their past as a fact and to build a strategy for a brighter future. Looking at the novel through the lens of Deleuzian concepts of nonclimactically plateaus of life and Aparallel Evolution, the authors here argue that the mutual effects of protagonists on each other results from their unity and helps them depart from depression to get back to the normal course of life. Also, as the concluding argument shows, mixing concepts of life affect Patrick and Tiffany through Deterritorializing and Reterritorializing their personalities and help them with settling their mental problems. Therefore, their ultimate reach to desired quantum of solace is not achieved by a promised climactic silver lining but by their unity. Through the process of Aparallel Evolution they continue to converge and form a united body; a body which Deleuze and Guattari describe as plane of consistency.
