Abstract:

Learning vocabulary is the fundamental step to learn a foreign language. Vocabularies are the primary conveyors of meaning and thus carry the main information load in communication. As part of the language, it is considered a core subject in formal education. Hence, the intent of the current study is to set out and evaluate the desirability of the English vocabulary sources relating the media in order to investigate, identify and classify the used vocabulary sources among the Iranian Englishlanguage learners. In this research, using a self-made questionnaire with the determined validity and reliability, 130 male and female Iranian English learners (aged 15 to 45 years) were questioned randomly. The data obtained was analyzed through the chi-square analysis and Friedman test. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results showed that English movies (with or without subtitles), English Animation, English subtitles of channels (English language satellites) were used most by them to improve their vocabularies and English-language radios, English news ( IRINN, PRESS TV , BBC, CNN )were used least.
