Abstract:

In response to call for the replication of the studies in the domain of strategy use within different sociocultural contexts and due to lack of research done on group differences as variables interacting with strategy use , this study was an attempt to investigate language strategy use of advance students of English in Ahvaz, Iran. In so doing, 150 advanced EFL students from three universities of the city responded to Language Strategy Survey (Cohen, Oxford, and Chi, 2002). The results indicated that although both genders tended to widely use strategies, females employed strategies more frequently than did their male counterparts. The findings confirmed that females generally are better language strategy users than males and this superiority could be manifested even at advanced levels of proficiency.
