خلاصه مقاله:
It is a long time that translation in Iran is nothing more than translating accurately while translation as a profession has other aspects too. One of the neglected aspects of translation in Iran is ethics of translation. Many countries such as America and Australia have put much emphasis on this aspect and for them observing ethical principles is as important as correct translation. Goal of the study was to evaluate Iranian translators’ familiarity with one aspect of ethics in translation i.e. Confidentiality and their commitment to it. English official translators in three cities of Iran; Tehran, Mashhad and Kerman, were chosen as participants in this study. To do the research, about a hundred questionnaires were distributed among them. The questionnaire consisted of thirty-five multiple-choice questions that gauged their familiarity with and commitment to Confidentiality in a hypothetical situation. The results showed that the participants are almost familiar with Confidentiality as an ethical issue and they were almost committed to it. In addition, their ages, levels of education and records of service had significant correlation with observing Confidentiality, however, their genders did not make a significant effect on it.
