Abstract:

Production logging is one of the most important characteristics of managing oil production of a field. It provides understanding into the type and rates of fluid flow in the reservoir which is criti-cal to optimizing the life of the well. In petroleum industry, production logging refers to a series of measurement tasks for a working well with multiphase flow such as; oil/gas, oil/water or oil/gas/water in oilfield. The successful denotation of water production problems requires the identification of spe-cific influx zones. The challenge facing in this study was to cost-effectively boost declining production at an offshore field in Iran. The field has been prolific but production has fallen by 59%. An extensive program of horizontal reentry drilling and work-overs to shut off water entry and recover bypassed oil was proposed. A program of PS platform logging was also carried out. This resulted in a successful shift from single to multilateral reentry wells, with increases in production ranging between 9 and 24%. A comprehensive work-over of existing wells was undertaken to shut off water entry and recover oil bypassed by the water front in the upper reservoir wells, and to recomplete the lower wells into the upper reservoir. This production enhancement campaign was conducted largely from a self-propelled, multipurpose service vessel. The results show that each horizontal lateral reentry hole in the drilling program would yield an average of 6000 B/D. This provided a benchmark for measuring the perfor-mance of the field development
