Abstract:

Free-fall gas gravity drainage is an important oil recovery mechanism in fractured carbonated reservoirs. Scaling equations are important tools to model the oil exchange between the matrix block and surrounding fracture system. The objective of this study is to check the validity of different scaling equations published to date. Basic rock and fluid properties along with gas-oil relative permeability and capillary pressure data from some Iranian fractured carbonated oil reservoirs were used as input to a reservoir simulator to generate 48 cases of oil recovery by gravity drainage. Different scaling equations were tested and their ability to collapse the recovery curves into a single curve was studied. The results of this study can be used to know the most appropriate scaling equations to predict the rate of oil recovery by gas gravity drainage from matrix blocks in naturally fractured reservoirs
