Abstract:

TiO2-based photocatalysts can be prepared using chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), solvothermal, hydrothermal and sol-gel method. The sol-gel process is a wet chemical, low-temperature method, which is less expensive as compared to vapor phase methods. Among the approaches to remove pollutions from wastewater, photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) is regarded as an encouraging method. There are several parameters such as high specific surface area, good dispersibility and crystallinity and strong light adsorption ability that can be veryhelpful for achieving better photo activity. These parameters are influenced by important factors such as water/titanium ratio, alcohol/titanium ratio, concentration and nature of the precursors, pH and temperature. In the present work, the operational parameters for the synthesis of TiO2-based photocatalysts and removal of the pollutions from wastewater are discussed in details.
