Safety management development of NGVs and CNG cylinder destructions study in Iranian fleets

Natural gas is one of the most widely used alternative fuels to reduce global vehicular emissions. In an effort to improve their environmental position, government officials worldwide are setting yearly targets and implementing policies to increase the number of vehicles operating on compressed natural gas (CNG). Government is also employing various incentive programs or rebates to encourage conversion of vehicles to CNG or to offset the cost of purchasing OEM manufactured CNG vehicles. In many countries it is less expensive for a vehicle or fleet owner to purchase natural gas than imported gasoline or diesel, so economics and fleet operating efficiencies are driving the increase in the use of natural gas vehicles. CNG system means an assembly of components and connecting parts fitted on motor vehicles using CNG in their propulsion system. Regarding to importance of safety in CNG vehicles, there is a safety management that should protect all using CNG activities. This management covers all parts such as selection of CNG system parts, Pre-assembly of parts according to instructions, design & installation of the CNG gas circuit, Gas leakage test and sale after services. In NGVs, cylinder is one of the most important parts, which are very noteworthy. Supplying the CNG in vehicles is the main barrier of NGVs development. There are many different types of cylinder that use for an especial aim in vehicles. Vast usage of cylinders and their problems such as destructions, damages, corrosion, and leakage… are basic subjects that busy their users. This research will focus on the safety management systems in Iranian NGVs and study the CNG cylinder destructions. In this paper, readers will find the ways for having a safe system and also we are expressing important activities about production of CNG city fleets and CNG sale after services in Iran that has been done in IKCO. That's been the biggest experience in the Middle East & the Middle Asia.
