Abstract:
This paper develops a new formative model for employee empowerment among nurses in private hospitals with cross-sectional survey data. Qualitative research on employee empowerment is used to direct the theoretical model of employee empowerment among nurses in private health care sectors which are then tested using LISREL 8.7. The output of CFA is then used to measure the constructs of employee empowerment. In modern years the concept of employee empowerment has been known a great deal of attention due to its significance on job involvement and human resource practices. This paper reviews the employee empowerment literature including its historical background, consequences, definitions, antecedents, dimensions and different models that have been developed by academicians. From the literature review, an employee empowerment basic model is proposed by Spreitzer (1994). The model is based on four dimensions namely meaning, competence, self determination and impact of an individual and empowering working environment. The formative approach of the study confirms the constraints that measures employee empowerment.
