A Study of the Strengths and Weakness of Clinch Hold from the Perspective of Wrestling Experts

Background: The purpose of the present research was to examine the strength and weaknesses of clinch hold from the perspective of wrestling experts. Materials and Methods: The sample consists of 213 wrestling practitioners (wrestlers, coaches, referees, and managers) who were selected using convenience sampling. The instrument for data collection was a researcher-made questionnaire. The content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed using the views of 12 wrestling experts and its reliability was calculated to be 0.76 using Cronbach’s alpha. Data was analyzed using Friedman test andKruskal–Wallis one-way analysis of variance. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between the views of coaches and referees on the strengths of clinch hold (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the views of managers and wrestlers in this regard (P>0.05). However, all the four studied groups had significantly different views on the weakness of clinch hold(P>0.05). Conclusion: As a result, we can add to the appeal and quality of wrestling by removing the clinch rule and replacing it with five-point throw and passivity penalty.
