Abstract:

Network survivability is one of the main design challenges in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). survivability is the ability of the network to accomplish its service in a timely manner, in the presence of threats, attacks or failures in hostile environments. The cluster-based WSN can increase the whole network life time. In this paper survivability of a cluster-based WSN is modeled as a continuous time Markov Chain. in this model survivability is based on software rejuvenation and recovery mechanisms. Software rejuvenation is applicable in security field and also is less expensive. To apply recovery mechanism, a WSN that all of its nodes have a spare node is considered. Spare node becomes active when the first node becomes inactive. Results show that survivability and availability of WSN increase with applying rejuvenation mechanism while with ascending trend of recovery rate, availability of WSN decreases and survivability increases. SHARPE simulation tool is used to validate results and also presenting a survivability evaluation in terms of availability.
