Abstract:

In this report, a mathematical model for vapor compression process in a single-effect mechanicalvapor compression (MVC) cycle to harvest water from the RO rejects containing dissolved salts, ispresented. Also the sensitivity of specific power consumption and compressor pressure ratio to the operation variables such as evaporator temperature, concentration of dissolved salts, the difference between the temperature of boiling wastewater and recycled water are investigated. It is shown thatpower consumption and pressure ratio increase linearly with the increase of the difference between theboiling wastewater temperature and the recycled water. This effect is more at higher values of temperature differences. Also, the specific power consumption and pressure ratio increase at lowerevaporation temperatures. Also this study shows that Sensitivity of this system to the feed salinity islow. The specific power consumption at evaporation temperature of 80 C, temperature difference of 4o 3C and salinity of 1% is 10.44 kwh/m . The values close to our intended value in the similar published articles on desalination are available
