Abstract:
The possibility of words to co-occur, along with their associations, is known as collocation. In fact words do not co-occur haphazardly and lexical patterns are different. This difference in the lexical patterning becomes finer across languages and creates potential problems in translations. The engrossing effect of source text patterning, misinterpreting the meaning of source-language collocations, the tension between accuracy and naturalness, culturespecific collocations, and marked collocations are among the pitfalls encountered in translating a text which are discussed in this paper according to Baker's model.
