Abstract:

Textbook evaluation has become a necessary practice in the field of teaching, seeking to assist in the choice of the best suitable contents for a specific context, promote teachers’ awareness on the actual contents of a book and facilitate them to make necessary adaptations. Considering the importance of textbook evaluation, the purpose of this research is the evaluation of the new text books at schools, prospects 1&2. Learning and teaching English at school start at junior secondary program, from level 7. Students have only one session for learning English (90 minutes) in a week. So, frequency information plays important role in learning English at schools. Most educators would suggest that words encountered most frequently in English are good candidates for study. Considering above situations, this research has investigated this question; which words do students learn at schools, considering that students are at minimum exposure with English? Do they learn frequent words? In the research, the words which used in Prospect 1 & 2 have been analysed and also their frequencies, based on Longman dictionary (2005). The results showed that students are exposed to 447 words in prospect 2 and 370 words in prospect 1. Data analysis showed that students are exposed to high frequency words but inadequate number of the words
