Abstract:
From the gelation point of view, a lot of studies have been conducted to investigate the effects of various factors such as monomer type, surfactants, additives and so on, on the reaction rate of gelcasting system. But up to now, a few studies have been conducted on the catalytic effect of alumina filler on the kinetic of polymerization of monomeric systems. In this paper, based on Morissete and Lewis's theoretical effort, the catalytic effect of transient metal oxide powders (CeO2, Fe2O3) onto reaction rate of methacrylic acid-based gelcasting system were
investigated using stress viscometry as a function of powder volume fraction (0.1 - 0.5), temperature (10 - 50 °C) and initiator concentration (0.1 - z.4 molar concentration on the monomer base). The results compared with alumina catalytic effect on the same gelcasting system.
