Abstract:

UV (Ultra Violet) curing is an environmental friendly technique because it is a solvent free process. The UV-curing process converts a reactive liquid into a solid through polymerization and crosslinking reactions induced by UV radiation. In this study UV-cured film based on epoxydiacrylate was prepared. Epoxydiacrylate was synthesized by reaction of epoxy resin with saturated long chain dibasic acid (adipic acid) and acrylic acid. The UV-curable formulation was prepared with synthetic epoxydiacrylate as oligomer. Some important factors including adhesion, thickness and transparency of the coating on paper and wood substrates were examined. It was demonstrated that the curing time and coating’s formulation are critical factors to the adhesion strength and thickness of UV-curable epoxydiacrylate resin. In this regard, to achieve the best performance coating, adhesion and thickness of UV-curable polymeric coating were improved by optimizing curing time and coating’s formulation.
