An Efficient Offline NFC Payment Method for Using In PublicTransport Micropayments

Using NFC in mobile payments because of ease-of-use, more security and its speed is very attractive for bothfinancial institutions and end-users. There are various papers about online or offline payment protocols that work withNFC but actually till now we have not any protocol that currently real working PSPs can use them for their payments,especially for offline payments. While there are many technical questions that should be answered to develop a realworking offline NFC payment protocol but recent researches shows that less adoption of the NFC is because ofignoring current system architectures and developing protocols that need different player that integrating them to thecurrent system is too hard. This paper presents a protocol that does not need any changes in the core banking systemsand tries to meet all their standards like PA-DSS. The main idea is using an online balance synchronization mechanismon the client’s device, expiration date for the balance tokens and signing the balance token with client’s deviceidentities. By using above factors the protocol is secure against backing up the balance token, copying it to other deviceand also over using the offline balance
