Abstract:

Liquefaction of saturated sands is one of the most important topics in geotechnical engineering. Reinforcing saturated sands is one of the solutions to reduce liquefaction potential. Scrap derived recycle materials (such as tire powders, tire chips and tire shreds) are some kinds of reinforcing materials. The reinforcing materials cause an improvement in liquefaction behavior of the soils. A series of one dimensional 1-g shaking table model tests were performed on sand and sand mixed tire powders. Four different percentages of sand-tire powders were tested in this research. Results show that excess pore-water pressure ratio decreases with increasing tire powders content in mixture. Generally, reinforcing soil with tire powders decreases the deformations caused by liquefaction
