Application of Resilience Thinking For Improving the Urban Environmental Quality: A Review

Environmental impacts due to rapid urbanization in the world and affecting cities by natural hazards and risks, has made the notion of resilient cities. The scholars consider notion of resilience in urban management and planning in the 1990s. Generally, Resilience is related to both preparations to minimize disturbances (or change) and actions to deal with disturbances once they have occurred. Urban resilience is the ability of a city to absorb disturbance while maintaining its functions and structures. The purpose of this study is to analysis of published resilience studies in general and the application of resilience thinking in urban environment in particular. The results show that, the most application of the concept of resilience in urban environments is related to climate change and its consequences. At the end, based on literature review, some practical strategies for improving urban environment have been introduced
