Abstract:

Patients with bone diseases have the highest risk of sustained fractures and suffer from non:union: bone healing due to tissue degeneration. Bone tissue engineering which combines principles of engineered materials, biomedical technology and renewable stem cells, is an interesting approach for the treatment of bone fractures , osteoporosis and bone malformations. Nanotopographical cues from biomaterials can exert powerful effects on the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells. Electrospun aligned fibers are one of those topographies which greatly mimic the fibril structure of ECM made by collagen. The differentiation fate of MSCs depends on the microenvironmental signals received by these cells and it is tightly regulated by molecular mechanisms. These mechanisms such as signaling pathways including bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)/transforming growth factor-b (TGF-b) and microRNAs are important regulatory elements which can lead to the activation of specific transcription factors .It seems that the investigation of the complex interplay between nanotopographical cues niche and miRNA activity in hMSCs is an effective tool to find new strategy for enhancing the induction of osteogenesis. This is a serious challenge in the field of tissue engineering and has not been elucidated yet.
