Background: Diabetes mellitus is a prevalent disorder in the world and in Iran; several studies have shown that vitamin D may play a role in insulin secretion and sensitivity. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between vitamin D and Type 2 diabetes mellitus and the effect of vitamin D supplementation on Type 2 diabetes mellitus.Materials and methods: This study was a systematic review study, to review of performed examination we searched for observational and interventional studies about the association between vitamin D and diabetes then after qualitative control and exclusion of some study, we selected 13 article.Results: most of the observational studies confirm the relationship between vitamin D and Type 2 diabetes mellitus, also the evidence from interventional studies suggested that vitamin D supplementation can affect insulin secretion and sensitivity. Conclusion: The finding from review of studies shown that there was a significant association between vitamin D and type2 diabetes. And vitamin D supplementation can be effective in improving insulin secretion and sensitivity particularly in early stage of type 2 diabetes mellitus
