A Wavelet-Based Method of Residual Pattern Compression

In Pattern Matching-Based lossless compression of binary text images, residual pattern coding has significant effect on overall performance. In this paper the importance of compression /transmission of the residual patterns are discussed from the visual distortion and compression points of view. Then a method for residual pattern compression is proposed based on the modified run-length description, wavelet transform and arithmetic coding. Experimental results show that the residual pattern compression ratio of the proposed method is up to 3 times higher than that of the conventional method [2].
