Abstract:

In this study Nanofibers of a chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) blend were successfully prepared using electrospinning techniques. Chitosan (CS) was dissolved with Acetic Acid in distilled water, and the blending of this solution of CS (6 wt%) with PVA (15 wt%), was electrospun to obtain nanofibers. Scince that this blend prepared to apply as an adsorbent for pollutants, so one of the charecteristics of this adsorbent should be non-solubility in water.SEM images showed that the morphology and diameter of the nanofibers. Nanofibers were observed when the CS content was over than 25 wt% and the best nanofibers formation achived on 1:1 ratio of two polymers. The average diameter of the optimum sample of nanofibers was at the range of 21–372 nm.
