Abstract:

An efficient and facile method for the synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles from structurally diverse nitriles and sodium azide is described using doped nano-sized copper(I) oxide (Cu2O) on melamine-formaldehyde resin (nano Cu2O-MFR) as a recoverable and reusable heterogeneous nano catalyst. A wide variety of nitriles underwent [3+2] cycloaddition with NaN3 under mild reaction conditions to afford the corresponding tetrazoles in good to excellent yields. Nano Cu2O-MFR was characterized by different microscopic, spectroscopic and physical techniques. The catalyst was easily separated and reused for five times without significant loss of its catalytic reactivity.
