Dwelling Styles in Iranian Guilan Villages; a Phenomenological viewpoint

Most of studies on Iranian Guilan Province local architecture have been conducted considering regional factors, heightened the increasing tendency towards material and industrial buildingmethods, so, in the wake of the reductionism, the architectural appearance and spirit of the regionhas changed fundamentally; thus, the need to an appropriate approach in line with local original values recognition regarding dwelling is explicitly felt. In the meantime, it seems focusing onenvironmental factors and building up methods as well as the environmental perception, thephenomenological approach can meet the mentioned need. The objective of current study is to recognize and implement the phenomenological analysis parameters of places in Guilan villages.The theoretical bases of current study founded on Schultz view over places and so, consideringthe natural environment counted as the main base of recognizing the place phenomenon and dwelling. The main issue is how the specific characteristics of phenomenological approachexpressed in Guilan village local architecture according to natural based theories of Schultz andPallassma’s perceptional views. The research is a qualitative one with an interpretive approach and the method implemented on data collection is fieldwork and library based. Relying on firstperson and hermeneutic approaches, fundamental bases of phenomenological method implemented in data analysis. The findings of the study show the impossibility of natural and artificial phenomenons isolation in understudied phenomenological region. Locating residentialunits components in line with creating internal and external dialectic, implemented in a distinguished path, and centers had a prominent role regarding domains and space borders which so, develop different morphological and topological characteristics regarding Iranian centralplateau in the region. Using multiple archetypal elements, simple archetypal forms, abstract ornaments resulted from such forms which lead to mutual influence intensification on collecting the world around in form of a work of art in the region architecture.
