Enhancing Open Collaborative ApplicationsUsing Document-oriented Databases

— In recent years, the increasing success of collaborative web applications has resulted in a lot of investigation. Collaboration monitoring is an important pillar in collaborative environments. Using relational database management systems (RDBMS) in such environments imposes a number of strains on these applications. In this paper, we address these problems and show how document-oriented databases can be used to solve or at least miti- gate issues related to the relational model and how NoSQL solutions can streamline the development and maintenance of collaborative web applications.
