Abstract:

The features of cross-flow vortices around submarine model (suboff model) are investigated experimentally in this research. The cross-flow vortex is measured by a five hole probe in three sections along submarine length and at various incidence angles α =10°, 15° and 20°. The experimental measurements are conducted at Re = 5.78×105 in a subsonic open circuit wind tunnel at university of yazd. At 10 degrees angle of attack, vortex center were very close to the body in comparison with other two angles of attack. The results show, at 15° angle of attack and higher angles, the separation appears completely at the leeward of the mid body area. Also the separated flow field area increased along the body from mid-body toward after-body. at larger angle of attack like α =20°, the flow separates earlier in the cross flow plane and warps up in two larger and stronger counter rotating symmetric vortices that have larger effect on flow field around submarine model
